Doppel is for adults only.
These are the published child safety standards of Doppel Ltd for the Doppel social app (iOS and Android) and the website getdoppel.app. The app has not launched yet: today the only thing open is beta pre-registration on the website. Where a measure below starts when the app opens, we say so. These standards set out our zero-tolerance position on child sexual abuse and exploitation, how anyone can report a concern, what we do when they do, and who is responsible. They apply to every member, every piece of content, and everyone who works with us.
1. No one under 18
Doppel is an adults-only service. Beta pre-registration on the website asks for a date of birth and refuses anyone under 18. When the app opens, everyone must pass an age check with our age-assurance provider, Yoti, before they can use it. A member who is found to be under 18, or to have lied about their age, is removed immediately and their data is deleted. We do not knowingly allow any minor to hold an account, appear in a profile, or take part in a conversation.
2. What is prohibited
The following are banned outright and are treated as an emergency, not a rules question:
- child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including drawn, generated or written material that sexualises a minor;
- any sexual, romantic or suggestive contact with, or approach to, anyone under 18, or anyone presenting as under 18;
- grooming, including building trust with a minor for a sexual purpose, and any attempt to move a minor to another platform;
- sextortion, and any request for, or sharing of, sexual images of a minor;
- trafficking or the facilitation of child sexual exploitation; and
- advertising, linking to or seeking any of the above.
3. How to report
- In the app (from launch): every profile and every conversation will have a Report option, including a child safety reason. The report reaches our team directly and the reported person is not told.
- By email: safety@getdoppel.app with the subject "Child safety report". Anyone can use this route, whether or not they have a Doppel account.
- In the UK, you can also report directly to CEOP (part of the National Crime Agency) or to the Internet Watch Foundation. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
4. What we do
- Prevention. An age check for every member before they can use the app; content related to self-harm and eating disorders excluded from processing; no public browsing of profiles by people who are not signed in. Before the app opens to the public we are also putting in place checks of uploaded photos against our rules.
- Priority review. Child safety reports go to the top of the queue. We aim to act on them within 24 hours.
- Removal. We remove the content and permanently remove the account. There is no appeal for confirmed CSAE.
- Preservation and reporting. We preserve the relevant records securely and report child sexual exploitation and abuse content we detect to the UK National Crime Agency through its Industry Reporting Portal, as required by section 66 of the Online Safety Act 2023. We do not keep CSAM beyond what is needed to report it and to meet the record-keeping rules that apply to those reports.
- Cooperation. We respond promptly to lawful requests from police and child protection bodies.
5. The law we follow
We comply with the laws that apply to us, including in the United Kingdom the Online Safety Act 2023, the Protection of Children Act 1978, the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and the Criminal Justice Act 1988, and with the child safety policies of the Apple App Store and Google Play. Doppel operates only in the United Kingdom. If that changes, we will update these standards to cover the law of each new country.
6. Who is responsible
Doppel Ltd has a designated child safety point of contact, a co-founder of the company, who works with the company's director and is responsible for these standards, for handling CSAE reports and for our reports to the authorities. Reach them at safety@getdoppel.app (subject "Child safety") or by post at Doppel Ltd, 1 Park Drive, London E14 9BB. Law enforcement and regulators are asked to use the same address.
7. Review
We review these standards at least once a year and whenever the law, the app or the risks change. The date at the top shows the current version. Related documents: our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
